Both my children have a security lovie. My son has a lamb that he got at his baptism, and my daughter has a Winnie the Pooh one. Neither one of them can sleep without it and at some point not even leave the house without it. So you know that it gets dirty and disgusting pretty quickly. I know that it can be a challenge to pry away it from your child just to be able to clean it.
One day when I was explaining to my son that “lammy” need to take a bath and get clean, he proceeded to walk up the steps and go to the bath to help give “lammy” a bath. I thought, well he is on to something. So that is what we did. We bathed “lammy” just like we bathed him. We used soap and washed him right in the tub.
Now every time “lammy” and “poohbear” need to be cleaned, we take them with both my children and give them a bath. This is great because it helps them get involved and helps them understand that their lovie also needs to get clean too.
Now to dry, depending on weather, we either let them dry outside or we throw them in the dryer for a few minutes. I explain that we need to dry them off.
What do you do to help keep your child’s security item clean?
