Skip the New Year’s Resolutions

Happy 2024! This is the time people want to make resolutions or a list of goals. Set a few, hope for the best. Nope, not for me. I stopped making New Year’s Resolutions years ago. Instead I set INTENTIONS.

Resolution: Noun. A firm decision to do or not to do something.

Intention: Noun. A thing intended; an aim or plan.

An intention is softer, gentler, kinder. It’s an aim, a plan but flexible.

So this year, why not try setting an intention or many intentions instead? Here’s what I do:

– I release last year with gratitude for what was;

– I let go of what didn’t serve me;

– I prepare to face a fresh new year.

Grab pen and paper. Light a candle or incense to set the mood and create a safe space. Find a comfortable chair. Meditation music if you prefer or quiet if that suits you better.

Then sit, breathe and connect with yourself. Breathing in 2024, breathing out what no longer serves you. Relax your body and your mind.

What would you like to manifest in 2024? Dream BIG. There are not rules, no shoulds or should nots. Nothing you can’t afford, nothing that’s impossible.

Begin your list. Travel – where to? Visit family? Pay off your debt, buy a house, renovate your kitchen, see your grandkids more. Better health, exercise more, lose weight, get a new job.

Be as specific as you can. How many pounds would you like to lose? Where would you like to visit? How much debt do you have to pay off?

Write it ALL down. Do not censor any of it. What we are doing is putting into the universe the desires of our heart. Bring in any spirituality you want to – Higher Power, Holy Spirit, etc. Don’t worry about the “how” or the outcome or the steps. This is laying it all on paper.

My list is three pages long. And I keep adding to it.

When you’ve exhausted your list, set it down. You may find more ideas come up and you can continue to add to the list. If you’re like me, this list will give you a feeling that all things are possible.

You can visit your list daily and review it during your morning prayer or meditation. Or, as I do, put it away to be taken out later in the year when I get to cross off all the wonderful things that happened on my list.

It’s amazing to me how this works. Just a list sent out to the universe. That’s it.

Begin your year with INTENTION.

Want to do more? Create a vision board using photos from magazines of your heart’s desires. Hang it in your kitchen or office so you can see it daily.

Happy 2024! Let me know if this works for you.
