Book Review: Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child

Marc Weissbluth does a great job explaining why infants, children and adults need sleep.  He describes the importance of sleep and how to establish good sleep patterns from birth.

He talks about how to calm all types of fussy infants and children.  He goes into detail about how to establish sleep patterns from infants to toddlers and brings in practical tips to help with the out of the box infant or child.  He includes stories from parents who have followed his suggestions.

Weissbluth is about having the parents set the schedule in order to protect the child’s schedule in the future.  His belief is that infants and toddlers do not get enough sleep and are not put on a schedule early enough.

Overall, the book is very detail oriented and very informative.  I think that he has great ideas and give explanations to support his ideas.  One suggestion he makes is to only keep a baby up for 1-2 hours at a time with active play.

I personally followed my son’s lead and now that he is older he has his own schedule he follows.  Based off the time of the day, I am now able to know what my son wants.
