Ahhh. Heckedy Peg is yet another favorite book by Audrey Wood. Don Wood’s illustrations are so alive! Look at them closely and you’ll see much tenderness and emotion artfully done.
Heckedy Peg is about a mother who leaves her seven children at home while she runs an errand. The mother tells the children two things: “Don’t let a stranger in and don’t touch fire.”
The rest is about the shenanigans the children get into and how a mother’s love can save them.

I’m sure we can relate to loving our children so much it hurts. And what wouldn’t we do for our kids? We would walk on our knees to save them!
During the corona virus, with kids being out of school and confined to home, use my read aloud stories to give yourself a 5 minute break! Just sit your children down and start the video!
If you want more, I offer some suggestions below:
Activities and benefits of reading this book:
-Kids can learn the days of the week.
-Seek and find: While showing the children the pictures, ask them to find a basket, a sleeping child, a broom, a cow, a bird.
-Before reading the passage, ask your child what the picture means. What is this child doing? Where is the mother going?
-If you’re reading for several children, assign each one a name of one of the children- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Let them act out their part.
I hope you and your children enjoy this story as much as me and my children did!
Shoot me a comment and let me know how your kids like it!
Stay well, be well.
